Volunteer-run outdoor rinks beside Groveland Recreation Center, back in use since 1997
Public skating at Groveland Park Outdoor Rinks: the next 7 days
Currently out of season Saint Paul Parks and Recreation says: "February 13, 2026 All ice rinks are now closed." It gives no opening day. The table links Groveland's updates to grovelandicerinks.org. Official schedule update
The ice beside Groveland Recreation Center has been part of the Groveland block since Groveland Elementary School was built in the 1920s. Use fell off from 1980, and for some years the ice was not maintained. In 1997 the recreation center director and neighbourhood residents decided to bring outdoor skating and hockey back.
In the fall of 2000 the city built a storage garage for a sweeper, using donated materials, and in 2004 the Groveland Booster Club bought a used 1978 Zamboni. In 2018 it bought the machine the Blackhawks used at Chicago Stadium and the United Center from 1981 to 2000, and sold the first Zamboni to Desnoyer Park.
The site has two 72-by-160-foot hockey rinks, a large general rink, a pond hockey rink and the Groveland Oval, a sixth-of-a-mile loop. Since 2019 the volunteers have run as Groveland Ice Rinks, a nonprofit that operates separately from the city, and they put in hundreds of hours each season on the ice.

Skates & rentals
Groveland Ice Rinks keeps an inventory of skates that the public can check out free of charge when rink attendants are on duty, and has hockey sticks and pucks too. A driver's licence, student ID or similar is held until the equipment is returned.
There is no booking: the City opens its outdoor rinks when conditions allow, says hours and conditions can change without notice, and asks you to call the number listed for the rink to confirm details.
