Built as the Ramsey County Fair’s exhibition building and one of the metro area’s first indoor rinks
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
The Hippodrome began as the main exhibition building for the Ramsey County Fair. The fair was held on the grounds that are now the site of Central Middle School until it moved to Maplewood in 1951, and the building went on to become one of the metro area’s first indoor rinks.
Today it is an indoor rink directly in front of Central Middle School. It is not a full-size sheet, but roughly two-thirds the size of a standard rink.
The building turned 100 in 2026. The school district marked the centennial with a family event that opened the rink for open skating and on-ice activities, with food at the White Bear Hockey concession stand and a sale of 100 Years of the Hipp apparel. History is often a focal point of the Manitou Days theme, and the 2026 theme, Bears on Blades, was selected intentionally to celebrate a century of the Hippodrome.
