Stillwater's 1995 recreation center: two NHL-size ice sheets beside a 363-by-245-foot domed field house
The St. Croix Valley Recreation Center was first created in 1995 and later expanded into a complex with two NHL-sized ice arenas and a multi-purpose domed field house. It is a multi-purpose facility built around health and wellness for all ages: two NHL-style sheets of 85 by 200 feet and a 363-by-245-foot dome, with the same operation managing a third sheet of ice at Lily Lake Ice Arena.
The surfaces carry sponsor names. The rinks are TCO North and TCO South, for Twin Cities Orthopedics, and the dome is the FWD Fieldhouse, for Fundamental Wealth Designs. Stillwater's boys' and girls' high school hockey teams play their home games here, and so does Mahtomedi High School hockey. The ice also carries open skating, open hockey, group skating lessons and freestyle sessions.
In December 2020 the center chose RSI's Legacy Locker Stall design for its renovated locker rooms. A further expansion of roughly 100,000-plus square feet is planned to replace an underutilized outdoor seasonal rink, and the City of Stillwater intends to manage the new space under an arrangement similar to its existing management contract for the center.
