Churchill Rink sits at Jackson's Landing in Durham, about 10 miles west of Portsmouth and 5 miles west of Dover. It is a semi-enclosed rink that many skaters consider outdoors: sessions come with views of snow-covered trees, clouds and a partial view of Great Bay, and a solar array on the roof helps power the building.
The Town of Durham runs the rink, which hosts Oyster River Youth Hockey programs as well as its own learn-to-skate school for children from age 4. Public hockey sessions are at times restricted by age group.
Fun skates add disco-style lights and upbeat music aimed at teens, families or all ages, alongside plain lap skating with music. The staff sharpen skates on a Blademaster triple-head machine and bring 79 years of combined sharpening experience. The rink can be cold, and mittens or gloves and proper outerwear are strongly suggested.
