A renovated arena in Waterville Valley's Town Square that hosts all of The Hockey Academy's youth tournaments
Waterville Valley Ice Arena stands in the Town Square complex on the shores of Corcoran's Pond. The town became a major tourist destination after 1965, when Tom Corcoran, a two-time Olympic skier and member of the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame, founded the ski area. The ski area's base sits apart from Town Square, where the arena shares the complex with an indoor pool and a racquet club.
The building is a renovated arena with team locker rooms. It is the host rink for all of The Hockey Academy's youth tournaments, and many other youth hockey tournaments and camps come through the arena during the year. For the academy, the small resort town is a place for its athletes to hone their skills as hockey players while learning to be part of a small community.
Daily public skating has long been a mainstay of the arena's operations. Around it, hockey hour stick-and-puck sessions and figure skating freestyle sessions recur on the calendar, so the town's own skaters share the schedule with the visiting teams.
