Port Colborne's two-pad community centre, established 2013
The Vale Health & Wellness Centre was established in 2013 as an all-under-one-roof venue for sport, recreation, health and entertainment, and the City calls it the hub of Port Colborne. It was the first facility of its kind in the Niagara Region. The centre marked its 10th anniversary with a public celebration in February 2023.
The 145,000-square-foot building holds two NHL-size ice pads, an all-season walking and jogging track and, through a partnership with the YMCA, lap and leisure pools, a gymnasium and a fitness area. A small pro shop sharpens skates beside the concessions. The Port Colborne Minor Hockey Association Sailors and the girls' Wave both play here.
Junior hockey arrived in 2022, when renovations at the Thorold Community Arena sent the Thorold Blackhawks here for the 2022–23 season. In May 2023 the club made the move permanent, and the City now welcomes the team to the centre as the Port Colborne Sailors Jr. B.
