Named the Michael Mack Rink in December 2025

The outdoor rink in Carleton Heights Park is a community-run sheet rather than a city-operated one. The Carleton Heights and Area Residents' Association (CHARA) builds and maintains the ice under a grant agreement with the City of Ottawa, while the city's program coordinator supplies the lights and the boards.

For many winters the person doing most of that work was Michael Mack, a lifelong resident of the area and a former CHARA board director and past president. He spent countless winter hours flooding and polishing the surface, and on many nights he was the lone volunteer looking after the ice so families could skate through the season.

Mack died in July 2024 after a brief illness. Ottawa city council moved to rename the Carleton Heights Rink in his honour, and in December 2025 it became the Michael Mack Rink.
