Volunteer-maintained boarded rink and puddle rink in a park built on the former Munro farm
For the latest skating dates, check the rink’s official information.
Pauline Vanier Park was built in the early 1960s on what had been the Munro farm, next to General Vanier Public School. The field house came in 1967, when the City of Ottawa built it as one of six field houses put up at the same time.
The rink is seasonal. Each winter a temporary rink with boards is set up in the park, and the field house is used as the change room for skaters. Alongside the boarded rink there is a puddle rink, and both the boards and the lights are seasonal.
Ice maintenance is a community job. Volunteers from the Riverside Park Community and Recreation Association take care of the ice during the season, and the association manages this rink together with a second neighbourhood rink at Arnott Park. The same association ran fireworks displays in the park for over twenty years, until changes in safety legislation required a move to a larger site; after a six-year gap the display resumed at Mooney's Bay in 2015.
