2,500-seat rink on the University of Rhode Island campus, home ice for the Rams men's and women's hockey
Bradford R. Boss Arena opened on the University of Rhode Island campus in Kingston in September 2002, a year after the university broke ground on the $12 million, 2,500-seat rink in August 2001. It is named for Bradford R. Boss, a URI class of 1955 graduate who helped found the university's men's hockey club in 1951; at the dedication he laced up his skates and was the first to glide across the new ice. Hundreds of local children had already signed up with the Southern Rhode Island Youth Hockey Association to play here before the doors opened.
The building holds one NHL-size sheet, 200 by 85 feet, with seating for 2,500 on three sides; the north side was left open so the arena could be expanded later. It is home ice for the Rhode Island Rams men's and women's club hockey teams and for the Jr. Rams youth hockey organization. In November 2025 the men's team swept George Mason here to take first place in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association.
The arena is managed by Oak View Group. In August 2023 mechanical failures caused a near-complete loss of the ice plant and shut the building; by late October 2023 repairs were on schedule and a new sheet of ice was due within weeks.
