Two indoor rinks and a curling rink under one roof

The Ponoka Arena Complex has two indoor skating surfaces, a large rink of 200 by 85 feet and a small rink of 185 by 70 feet, along with an outdoor skating surface, a six-sheet curling rink, a lounge and a meeting room. It is the home of the Jr. B Stampeders, Ponoka Minor Hockey, Skate Ponoka, Ponoka Rec Hockey, Lacoka Lacrosse and the Ponoka Curling Club.

A new ice plant was being installed at the complex in early 2021 to replace the arena's existing plant, which was 35 years old and at the end of its life cycle. The recreation coordinator noted that the old plant could not keep up with ice making in warm weather because of its age and inefficiency, and that the new one would allow Ponoka to host summer training camps.

The new plant is housed in an exterior building outside the arena and requires significantly less ammonia to operate than the old one, which town officials described as a major safety advantage.
