An open-air winter rink in Clinton Square, the downtown Syracuse square that has hosted skating since 1990
Currently out of season The City says the Clinton Square skating season begins the last week in November and runs to March 2. Official schedule update
Clinton Square has been a gathering place since the earliest days of Syracuse, and the Erie Canal was built through it in the 1820s. Since 1990 the square has held an ice skating rink every winter.
The open-air rink sits in the heart of downtown and is one of the City's most popular destinations for skaters. The season runs from the last week of November to March 2, and a warming room lets skaters come inside to warm up between laps on the open ice. Skaters aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
The square's 2001 redevelopment rerouted Erie Boulevard, and the city's Christmas tree lighting is traditionally a major event on the square. In June 2026 the square also hosted a temporary roller rink.
