An outdoor skating pad from 1933

Blackstock Arena opened in 1933 as an outdoor skating pad. Walls and a roof were added in the 1950s, and a refrigeration unit installed in 1967 created the indoor arena that is still in use. Blackstock Minor Hockey's Mike Blakey says almost everyone in town, and many from surrounding areas, either learned to skate here or played in one of the leagues that operate out of Blackstock.

In March 2026 the arena was named Ontario's provincial winner in the Kraft Hockeyville contest, one of 13 provincial and territorial winners announced on Hockey Night in Canada. Taber and Tumbler Ridge were chosen as the top two, leaving Blackstock just outside the final round.

The aging refrigeration system is the building's pressing need. Scugog council has approved a permanent refrigeration plant, backed by Blackstock Minor Hockey's Kraft Hockeyville funding and by a new Blackstock Arena Planning and Development Committee that has committed to fundraising 20% of the cost.
