Whitby's twin-pad arena, opened September 12, 2026
Fieldgate Sports Complex is Whitby's newest arena, a twin-pad rink inside a roughly 15,200-square-metre recreation centre that also holds Durham Region's largest aquatics centre. Construction began with a groundbreaking in September 2023, and the Town opened the doors on September 12, 2026, with Olympic figure skating champion Elvis Stojko among the guests.
The arenas were built with radiant heating directly in the seating, and the roof carries hundreds of solar panels toward the building's LEED Gold and Zero Carbon goals. The name comes from a $1.5 million, 10-year naming rights agreement the Town announced on December 1, 2025.
The complex took over from Luther Vipond Memorial Arena in Brooklin, whose ice sports moved here and to other Town rinks after a final community skate there on March 15, 2026. The Town presents it as future home ice for Whitby Minor Hockey, and the Whitby Girls Hockey Association was among the first groups given a look at the new ice.
