Kitsilano's war memorial rink
Kitsilano Rink is part of the Kitsilano War Memorial Community Centre, one of Vancouver's oldest community centres. It began in the late 1940s as a war memorial honouring Vancouverites who served in the Second World War, born of a grassroots community movement.
The centre, near West Broadway and Macdonald Street, is run jointly by the Vancouver Park Board and the Kitsilano Community Association, and it holds a youth centre, a seniors' lounge, a dance studio and a fitness centre alongside the rink.
The rink has an NHL-size sheet of 200 by 85 feet with seating for 100. The ice is in from September to March for public skating, lessons, drop-in hockey and stick and puck, and from April to August the rink becomes a dry floor for ball hockey, lacrosse, in-line hockey, trade shows and special events. The Kitsilano Figure Skating Club dates to 1997.
