Once the Lambton-Kent Memorial Agricultural Centre, renamed in 2018 for Dresden NHL player Ken Houston
The arena in Dresden was built as the Lambton-Kent Memorial Agricultural Centre with support from the Legion, the local agricultural society and both Lambton and Kent counties, which is where the name came from. The Dresden Agricultural Society donated the land it stands on.
In September 2018 Chatham-Kent council voted to rename it for Ken Houston, a Dresden hockey legend who died that March. A group led by Dresden Jr. Kings president Dave Cameron proposed the change, and ten speakers backed the motion at council. The new name was unveiled in December 2018, with hundreds of people on hand, including NHL alumni, Dresden minor hockey teams and Houston's family, and his grandchildren pulled the curtain off the new sign.
Houston was drafted by the Atlanta Flames in 1973 and played seven seasons for the franchise, two of them after it moved to Calgary. He helped the Flames reach the 1981 playoff semifinals, and an annual harness race at Dresden Raceway is dedicated to him. The Dresden Jr. Kings of the Provincial Junior Hockey League list the arena as home ice; the club won the Clarence Schmalz Cup in 1971.
