Framingham's city rink since 1963

The Edward F. Loring Arena opened in November 1963 as a seasonal rink, one of the first municipally owned arenas in the area. The City of Framingham still owns it through its Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs division, and in 2024 the city chose to keep running it rather than contract it out to a private company.

Framingham Youth Hockey skates here, along with Framingham High School's boys' and girls' teams, Framingham Middle School hockey, Holliston and Ashland high schools and Framingham State's college hockey. The arena has also hosted MIAA hockey tournament games.

By the 2010s most of the building's materials and mechanical systems were still original 1960s equipment, and its layout dated from a time when team hockey was mostly male, with shared hallways to the locker rooms and gang showers. In 2014 the Loring Arena Legacy Foundation launched a capital campaign, Skate Forward, to help pay for a renovation. Town Meeting funded the design and construction in spring 2015, construction started in May 2017, and a grand re-opening was held on September 16, 2019. The completed project made the building fully accessible, from entryways and locker rooms to seating on both floors, and gave it locker rooms and showers designed for today's teams.
