A 1964 state rink in West Roxbury, first open-sided under an arched roof, enclosed in 1975 and later rebuilt.
Jim Roche Community Ice Arena was built in 1964 as an open-sided seasonal rink with an arched roof over the ice, and it was enclosed in 1975. It belongs to the public rink network the Department of Conservation and Recreation developed in the 1960s and 1970s, and FMC Ice Sports has run it for DCR, in partnership with the West Roxbury Community Center, since 2006.
A later rebuild brought an insulated roof and ice slab, new refrigeration and utility services, new boards and tempered glass, and ADA-accessible bleachers with overhead infrared heaters, along with larger team rooms and an expanded lobby, concession area and skate shop. Caparell Sports runs the pro shop.
The rink is home to the NEFS Boston Brahmas, Parkway Youth Hockey, the Bay State Skating School, Greg Carter's European Hockey School, Pro Ambitions Hockey Camp and StinkySocks adult hockey.
