The only open-air rink in the northern Black Forest
The Kunsteisbahn am Wiedenfelsen lies at the foot of a former quarry in the hills above Bühl. The city describes it as the only open-air ice rink in the northern Black Forest and one of the largest artificial ice rinks in Europe, with 1,800 square metres of ice. In clear weather the view reaches across the Rhine valley as far as Strasbourg.
Besides skating, the rink offers ice hockey, Eisstockschießen and ice-kart racing. According to the city, the facility run by Axel Sator is the only one in Europe that offers electric kart races on an ice surface, and the rink reserves Sunday mornings for hockey groups by arrangement.
Almhütten built into the winter-sport site provide food and drink, and torchlight walks in the wooded surroundings round off the programme.
