A 1974 ice hall in Arne Jacobsen's stadium park
Ishal 1, the skating hall at Gentofte Sportspark, was built in 1974. It measures 41 by 70 metres on the ground and stands about 12 metres high in the middle, with standing room for about 500 spectators and seats for about 356 along one long side. Changing rooms and storage lie on both sides of the hall, for figure skaters and for ice hockey players, and the ice is normally taken out every summer from April to August.
The hall belongs to a sports park that began as Gentofte Stadion, inaugurated on Sunday 27 September 1942 before 20,000 spectators. The competition for the grounds and buildings was won by the 28-year-old Arne Jacobsen. Today the park, which holds pitches, ice halls, sports halls and a skatepark, is part of Gentofte Kommune's sports facilities, and the home ice hockey club Gentofte Stars staffs the kiosk and runs the Saturday IsDisco with unpaid parents and volunteers.
