From a 1960 open-air rink to a new hall opposite

The old Gladsaxe Skøjtehal was built in 1960 as an open-air rink and given a roof and facades in 1962. In 2015-2016 cracks were found in the ice slab, the cooling pipes under the ice had begun to leak and several parts of the building needed thorough renovation. Gladsaxe Kommune turned the first sod for a replacement in September 2022, placed opposite the old hall on Isbanevej, budgeted at 82 million kroner and expected to be ready in September 2023.

The new hall was planned with a 30 by 60 metre rink that can be changed to 26 by 60 metres, and room for 1,600 spectators on both sides of the ice. It was designed in close dialogue with Gladsaxe Ishockey Klub, Gladsaxe Skøjteløber Forening and the local sports council, and the municipality described it as the setting for public family events such as Familie Isdisco and Teen Isdisco.
