Rebuilt in 2002 on the foundations of the old ice hall
Heilbronn's ice stadium was built in 2002 by the city, to plans by the architect Jürgen Pils, on the foundations of the old ice hall. Of the old building only the foundations and the ice surface with its cooling pipes were kept. Construction took about ten months from January 2002. The first ice hockey game was played on 3 November 2002, when the Heilbronner Falken beat the Straubing Tigers 1:0, and the arena was officially opened on 12 November with a friendly against the Adler Mannheim.
For its first five years the stadium was called the Knorr Arena, and from July 2007 to July 2009 it carried the name of the company Lavatec. The ice surface covers 1,750 square metres, and the Stadtwerke Heilbronn describe a hall with 4,000 spectator places. Since November 2003 the Pistenbar Champions has stood under the standing-room stand and stays open during public skating.
Two clubs use the hall, the Heilbronner EC and the REV Heilbronn, and the professional DEL2 team Heilbronner Falken trains and plays there.
