Replaced the Eisarena Ellental, opened 21 December 2012
The EgeTrans Arena replaced the Eisarena Ellental as the home rink of the Bietigheim Steelers, because the old rink no longer met current safety standards and badly needed renovation. Construction began on 17 November 2011, and the arena was inaugurated on 21 December 2012 with a sold-out derby in which the Steelers beat the Heilbronner Falken 4:3 after overtime.
The Stadtwerke Bietigheim-Bissingen run the hall, and the logistics firm EgeTrans has been its naming sponsor since the opening. The arena also hosts the professional handball team of the SG BBM Bietigheim, for which the permanent ice surface is covered with a playing floor.
Public skating takes place in the training hall as well as in the arena, so the second ice surface is open on ice hockey or handball match days. The two home teams are the Steelers in the DEL2 and the SG BBM Bietigheim in the first handball Bundesliga.
