Real ice in the middle of a travelling Christmas theme market
The Echt-Eisbahn is one of the attractions of the Cranger Weihnachtszauber, which describes itself as the largest mobile Christmas theme market in Europe. It is laid out on the Cranger Kirmesplatz in Herne, and the skating happens on real ice over roughly 1,000 square metres, framed by festive decorations and twinkling lights.
Next to the ice stands the Cranger Weihnachtsstube, where skaters can warm up with hot drinks and winter specialities after their laps. The market around the rink also offers a Christmas parade, shows, rides and a fairy-tale forest, so the rink suits a whole afternoon out for the family.
On weekday mornings the rink opens specially for school classes, and Herne classes skate free in 2026. The rink runs only during the market, from mid-November to the end of December.
