Kobe's only year-round ice rink, opened in 2025
Sysmex Kobe Ice Campus in Chuo Ward opened on 20 June 2025 and bills itself as the only year-round ice rink in Kobe. At the opening ceremony Kaori Sakamoto, the Olympic medallist from Nada Ward, skated, and public sessions began on 12 July.
The rink is run by the association Kobe Skate, which is funded by the prefectural skating and ice hockey federations and the medical-equipment maker Sysmex. Sysmex's chairman said he learned that Kobe needed a year-round rink from a 2017 letter from Sakamoto and Mai Mihara, and has taken the naming rights.
The sheet is international size, 60 by 30 metres, and the hall stays at about 10 degrees. For hire it has two sets of hockey goals and a lesson room with mirrors. Kobe Skate's own message notes that skating culture flourished around Mount Rokko in the Taisho era.

Seniors aged 65 and over pay ¥1,000; for skaters with a disability certificate, adults pay ¥1,000 and children ¥500.
Hire skates cost ¥500 and come as figure skates (15 to 32 cm), hockey skates (20 to 29 cm) and double runners for small children (15 to 18 cm). Helmets are lent free, and finger-covering gloves, which are compulsory, are sold for ¥300 a pair.
Children who have not yet started elementary school must skate with a guardian. Gloves that cover the fingertips must be worn, and skaters without them are not allowed on the ice. Helmets are free to borrow and recommended, and the rink is kept at around 10 degrees.
The car park has 16 spaces, one of them for disabled drivers, and is open 24 hours: the first 15 minutes are free, then ¥200 per 20 minutes up to ¥600 per 24 hours.
A disability certificate gets the disability discount for the skater and for one carer; the spectator and hire-skate charges are not discounted. The car park has one space for disabled drivers.
