Opened in October 1996 as the home of SAD Majadahonda, with a 60 by 30 metre Olympic-size sheet
La Nevera opened in October 1996 in Majadahonda's El Carralero industrial estate, to a design the studio Sotomaroto Solid Arquitectura drew up that year. Its Olympic-size sheet, 60 by 30 metres or 1,800 square metres, makes it one of five rinks of that size in Spain.
Three parts sit under one roof: an entrance and offices with a glass front, the rink itself with a fireproof wood interior chosen to minimise electricity use, and a technical section holding the climate-control equipment and the ice resurfacer.
SAD Majadahonda was founded in 1996 as the rink went up, and its men's team won its first and only league title in 1997-98. Today La Nevera is the home of SAD Majadahonda and Club La Nevera, nine ice hockey teams in all, and about 800 athletes in figure skating, synchronised skating and hockey train here. Seven Spanish Olympic skaters have trained at La Nevera, among them Javier Fernández.
