A 60 by 30 metre sheet under a movable dome, one of five Olympic-size rinks in Spain
The rink opened in 2003 inside the Palacio de Hielo complex in Madrid's Hortaleza district, which was inaugurated in November 2003 after construction that began in 1994. It is one of five Olympic-size rinks in Spain, out of 14 permanent ice rinks in the country.
The sheet measures 60 by 30 metres, or 1,800 square metres, and sits under a movable dome 16 metres high, with 1,800 seats around it. Its size allows high-level championships, and the rink is used for skating, hockey and curling.
Competition skaters who train here belong to Club Hielo Madrid. The skating school runs from September to May, takes pupils from age 3 with no upper age limit, and has groups for every age and level.
