Nantes' ice rink since 1984
The Petit Port ice rink opened in 1984 as part of the Petit Port leisure centre, replacing the rink that stood in the old Feltre market. Its Olympic-size sheet measures 60 by 30 metres and is laid out to the specifications of the French ice hockey and ice sports federations. NGE, the public company the city of Nantes created in 1976, runs it on behalf of Nantes Métropole.
Three clubs are in residence. Nantes Atlantique Hockey Glace, known as the Corsaires de Nantes, plays ice hockey here; its predecessor club was founded the same year the rink opened. Nantes Sports de Glace skates figure skating and ice ballet, and Léo Lagrange Nantes Patinage covers figure skating, ice dance and synchronised skating.
Public sessions are livened up by one themed event a month and weekly regulars, including ice petanque (Eisstock) on Wednesday evenings and mini-games such as ice mölkky and ice basketball on Tuesday evenings. Occasional nights such as Total Black Out are skated in complete darkness.
