The ice club of Norg was founded at a meeting on 23 January 1933 with 28 people present, and chose the name IJsclub 'Schipmeer'. Its first event, a skating race for schoolchildren, followed on 26 January, and by 1934 the club had grown to 133 members.
By 1948 the rink had moved to the present Molenveen, and the minutes record a new name, IJsclub 'Norg en Omstreken'. In 1950 the members decided to lay electric light, and a lease signed in 1958 gave the club a plot of water known as the Molenveen for 25 years. In 1989 a permit was granted for a limited extension to make a 400-metre track.
A well 90 metres deep gives the rink its own water supply.
