Strasbourg's two-rink Iceberg, open since 2005
The Iceberg was inaugurated in December 2005 and is divided into two rinks. The sports rink is an ice hockey arena used for French championship matches, with fixed seating for 1,200 people that can be extended to 2,400 for big events. The fun rink has 1,500 square metres of ice on which two curling rinks are drawn.
Étoile noire de Strasbourg plays its home matches here, and the building hosted the 2013 French figure skating championships, held from 13 to 16 December 2012. The sports rink is not always open to the public: the rink says it opens according to availability and crowds.
The Eurométropole council decided on 24 March 2016 to take over the management of the rink. Renovation works costing close to 450,000 euros followed in the summer of 2016: a new barrier, new ice, extra plexiglass protection, insulation and paint.
