Oerlikon rink, due to be replaced by a new sports centre from 2031

The Kunsteisbahn Oerlikon has an outdoor field for the public and a hall field for clubs, and the ice hall has a stand. The city counts it among the facilities that are reaching their capacity limits because the population of northern Zurich is growing strongly, and it calls the old rink and the Oerlikon indoor pool badly in need of repair.

Voters approved the building credit for a new Sportzentrum Oerlikon on 28 September 2025 with 66.7 percent yes votes. Its main building, designed by Boltshauser Architekten, is planned to have an extended indoor pool and two ice fields that can be used all year round. The old rink is to be demolished only after the new building stages are finished, so that residents, schools and clubs can keep using the existing ice without a break and without temporary buildings.

Each winter the city's sports office invites the public to free skating on five Wednesday evenings at the Heuried and Oerlikon rinks.
