A seasonal outdoor rink on the lawn of Carmel's Center for the Performing Arts, ringed by the Christkindlmarkt
Currently out of season The Ice at Carter Green opens for the 2026-27 season on November 21, 2026 and runs through January 31, 2027. Official schedule update
The Ice at Carter Green opened on November 18, 2017, when one ribbon-cutting opened the first Carmel Christkindlmarkt and its skating rink together. That first winter it was called the Ice at Center Green. The Carmel Redevelopment Commission paid for the outdoor rink and the wooden vendor huts around it, and before the opening the City was negotiating with Mike Aulby, owner of the Carmel Ice Skadium, to run the rink through the season.
The rink sits between the Palladium and the Tarkington and Studio theaters. From November 21 to December 24, 2026, the German Christmas market surrounds it; the first market set up 38 huts, one of them to store the Zamboni while skaters were on the ice. When the market closes, the rink stays open under its own name, this season through January 31, 2027.
January brings the rink's own events. The 2027 Festival of Ice puts a People's Choice ice-carving competition and the Carmel Fire Department's chili cook-off beside the rink on January 16. The Carmel Winter Games fill the ice with non-skating contests such as ice trike relays, human curling and Human Hungry Hippo. Sensory Skate Days, with skate aids on hand, are held for children with autism or sensory processing disorders; this season's dates have not been announced.
