Indianapolis's refrigerated rink at Holliday Park

The Ice Rink at Holliday Park sits in a park that dates to the 1916 centennial celebration of Indiana statehood, when John and Evaline Holliday donated their country estate to the City of Indianapolis. It was the park's first rink of its own and the first outdoor refrigerated ice-skating rink in Indy, two-thirds the size of an NHL rink, and the team needed two weeks to get it together.

The park's foundation expects the rink to become an annual holiday tradition, and proceeds go to the Holliday Park Foundation so the park can continue to grow, evolve and serve the community. Over 100 years on, it says, the Hollidays' vision has been fulfilled.

Beyond public skating, the ice hosts Learn to Skate lessons with the Winter Club of Indianapolis, a hockey basics class from Our Hockey House, a curling league billed as one of winter's most unique and social sports, and fast-paced 3-on-3 pond hockey.
