Built where two earlier rinks stood
The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is the indoor, year-round rink among the three the Town operates; the other two are outdoors at Marjorie Post and Syosset-Woodbury Community Parks. It sits within the 18-acre Bethpage Community Park, on the footprint of two earlier ice rinks that were demolished and replaced by the current center. The land had been donated to the Town as parkland in 1962.
The Town's youth ice hockey program is run through the rink. It is a house league for boys and girls from 8U to 16U with a training camp, a full game schedule and playoffs, and ten-week clinics for girls, 6U players and adults learning to play. The Rinx offers figure skating here for skaters from beginners through advanced competitive levels, and holds freestyle sessions.
In June 2020 every bulb and lighting fixture in the building was converted to LED. Each December the Town hosts a free Holiday on Ice show, described as an annual tradition for many families, where students from the Town's skating program perform and players from its youth hockey program split into two exhibition teams, the Elves and the Reindeer.
