Named for Islanders great Clark Gillies

Clark Gillies Arena is the Town of Huntington's year-round ice rink in Dix Hills Park, known as the Dix Hills Ice Rink until May 2022. That spring the Town renamed it for Clark Gillies, the Hockey Hall of Famer who played 872 games for the New York Islanders from 1974 to 1986 as a core piece of their Stanley Cup dynasty.

The building holds two full-sized NHL rinks under one roof and is designed in the manner of a ski lodge, open and airy, with sloped ceilings and a rustic look. Along with public sessions, the Town runs figure skating, group and private lessons, and adult and youth hockey programs here.

At the dedication, Pam Gillies unveiled a new center-ice logo with her husband's number nine and a pair of crossed hockey sticks, and the Islanders raised a Clark Gillies banner so his number always has a place in the rink. She said he would have been happy to know that future figure skaters and hockey players would learn the game he loved in a rink bearing his name.
