Opened in 1994 as the Easy Street Arena
Iceoplex opened in 1994 as the Easy Street Arena, built inside the shell of an old building in Simi Valley for $3.5 million with two ice rinks and a roller rink. Today the two ice sheets, one NHL-size and one Olympic, carry instruction in hockey, figure skating, curling, speed skating, synchronized skating and ice theater.
Hockey dominates the schedule. The building is the training center for Mariners Youth Hockey, the LA Kings High School League and the CSUN and Cal Lutheran college teams, and the Ventura Mariners travel program, Puckhead Hockey Club and Ventura Vikings all list it as home. General manager Chris Ford has called the Vikings a new era of competitive hockey in Simi Valley. On the figure skating side, coaches have included Tisha Walker, on staff as of 2016, and Danielle Kahle, who assisted with an annual Lion King ice show.
The rink stages full-scale ice shows under professional show lighting that is also used for film shoots. In December 2023 owner Scott Slinger signed a branding agreement with the L.A. Kings, and the building became the L.A. Kings Iceoplex Ice Arena, one of seven Southern California rinks to take the Kings name.
