Base of Southern California's skating elite in 1987

Pickwick's ice has been a figure-skating training ground for decades: in December 1987 the Los Angeles Times called Pickwick Ice Arena in Burbank the base of the skating elite. Mirai Nagasu trained here under coaches Wendy Olson and Amy Evidente early in her career, and Tisha Walker was coached by Doug and Lauri Varvais on this ice as well as at Conejo Valley and Ice Castle.

The rink is a single NHL-size sheet. Hockey here belongs to the California Golden Bears, a nonprofit youth club first chartered by the state in 1964 and one of the oldest in Southern California, and Teams Royale Synchronized Skating is based at the rink. The coaching staff today includes Jean Yun, who also teaches at East West Ice Palace in Artesia, and Trifun Zivanovic, who works as a skating instructor here.

Renovation work started in July 2019, opening with the removal of the main sign so a new one could go up. The rink now operates as LA Kings Ice Pickwick.
