The Palos Verdes rink the Kings reopened in 2021
The rink at the Promenade on the Peninsula opened in 1981 as an indoor Ice Capades Chalet, debuting alongside a community theater when the complex opened. Olympic gold medalist Dorothy Hamill and Torrance native Michelle Kwan are among the figure skaters the rink counts in its past, and for four decades it was a fixture on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The then-named Promenade Ice Chalet closed abruptly on September 16, 2020, after coronavirus-related financial struggles. The Los Angeles Kings and American Sports Entertainment Company teamed up to save it, signing a five-year lease with the owners of the Promenade on the Peninsula and remodeling the rink: the cold-floor pipe system was repaired and a new scoreboard went in. The two celebrated the grand opening of the rebranded rink, reintroduced as LA Kings Ice PV, with a ribbon-cutting on September 7, 2021.
Hockey is the in-house program with the clearest name today. The LA Kings Ice PV Adult Hockey League plays on this ice under a rulebook updated in September 2025, and the hockey calendar carries sticktime and pick-up sessions. The Kings said at the 2021 reopening that they would host events at the rink, including ones for youth.
