Chic Murray Arena, named for Mississauga's second mayor
Chic Murray Arena is named for Charles Myron "Chic" Murray (1914–1984), the second Mayor of the Town of Mississauga before it amalgamated with surrounding towns into the city.
The arena is part of Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, which reopened after three years of construction with a new aquatic centre holding a 25-metre, six-lane pool, a rock climbing wall and a 20-metre warm-water therapeutic pool kept at 91°F, plus the Applewood Heights Gymnasium, whose floor has been newly refinished with lines for pickleball, and a universal changeroom.
On the ice, the City of Mississauga runs Fun Skate, Adult and Older Adult Skate, figure skating shinny, hockey shinny and stick and puck, along with ice skating lessons and an adapted skating program for children aged 6 to 12 with disabilities.
