Malton Arena, renamed for Paul Coffey
Paul Coffey Arena was officially opened as Malton Arena in 1968 by Chic Murray, then reeve of the newly created Town of Mississauga. On September 23, 2016, the city renamed it for Paul Coffey, the National Hockey League star who grew up in Malton, renaming nearby Wildwood Park as Paul Coffey Park in the same ceremony.
Malton's hockey roots run deeper than the building: the Malton Minor Hockey Association was founded in 1949 and lasted until 2005, and a Junior C lacrosse team played out of Malton Arena for a number of years.
The recently renovated arena now features a mural by local artists celebrating Malton's beauty and history. Near Highways 427 and 407, it hosts learn to skate classes, hockey, public skating and ball hockey, and has the Orenda Room for groups of up to 50.
