Opened in 2004 to replace Mount Allison's Allison Gardens, with an NHL-sized rink and seats for up to 750
The Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre opened in 2004 and replaced Allison Gardens, the former Mount Allison rink on Lansdowne Street that stood until 2003. Three levels of government contributed $1 million each toward construction, and another $1.2 million was fundraised to outfit the arena.
The rink is NHL-sized, with seating for up to 750 spectators and six full-size dressing rooms. Sackville Minor Hockey, the Sackville Skating Club, the Tantramar Regional High School hockey teams and the Mount Allison Mounties all use the ice. A mezzanine overlooks the rink and houses the Sackville Sports Wall.
Over the years the building has hosted hockey, roller derbies, model train shows and circuses, and it marked its 20th anniversary in 2024. A fundraising campaign is working toward 630 new seats by the fall of 2026, to be installed over the current concrete bleacher seating.
