The City's focal point for community ice sports, on the CN Sportplex
The Greenfoot Energy 4-Plex was developed as the focal point for community ice sports in the City of Moncton. It houses four NHL regulation sized hockey rinks with seating for thousands. It stands on the grounds of the CN Sportplex, part of the award-winning redevelopment of the former Canadian National railway property, which sat idle until 1997, when the Canada Lands Company began cleaning up the 282 acre site.
Moncton City Council named the four rinks for the city's sports heritage. Rink A, the Arena of Champions, recognizes past Canadian champions in amateur hockey and figure skating. Rink B honours Clarence Girouard, a familiar face to the minor hockey community for over forty years, and Rink C honours Moncton native Gordie Drillon, who played seven NHL seasons. Rink D honours the Carroll Brothers hockey team, eight sons of one Sunny Brae family.
