The University of Saskatchewan's arena, opened in 2018
Merlis Belsher Place opened at the University of Saskatchewan in 2018, replacing the 90-year-old Rutherford Arena after the university announced a new athletics facility in 2016. Money came through the Home Ice Campaign, which drew on alumni, minor hockey associations and the City of Saskatoon, and the arena is named for Merlis Belsher, a College of Law alumnus whose gift anchored the campaign.
The main arena holds 2,700 for hockey. It is home to the Saskatchewan Huskies men's and women's U Sports hockey teams and hosts the Saskatoon Contacts and Saskatoon Stars of the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association, as well as the Saskatoon Mamba basketball team. Since 2019 the university has held its convocation here, bringing the ceremonies back to campus for the first time since the 1960s. Nustadia Recreation Inc. operates and manages the building.
