The Westfield Rink went up at Gumbert Park in November 2018, after the Town Council authorized a lease agreement with Arena Realty Partners for a temporary ice rink. In 2019 the New Jersey State League of Municipalities gave the Town of Westfield its Innovation in Governance Award, recognizing the rink as a public/private partnership that turned an underused town asset into a community benefit paid for by a private operator.
The rink has a full-size NHL-regulation ice surface and has served Union County skaters and players since 2018. In January 2022 the New Jersey Devils Learn to Play program came here, and Stanley Cup champions Bruce Driver and Grant Marshall skated with 50 boys and girls.
The roof collapsed in February 2026. By that April, a permanent solution for the rink was being pursued with its current partner.
