Springfield's 450,000-square-foot sports complex, whose two NHL-size rinks opened with Alex Ovechkin's help.
The St. James was founded by Craig A.A. Dixon, an investment banker, and Kendrick F. Ashton Jr., a mergers and acquisitions lawyer, two former football players who met as classmates at the College of William & Mary. The 450,000-square-foot complex sits on 20 acres in Springfield, and its ice rinks opened during a shortage of available ice time in the Washington area.
The Ice House has two NHL-size rinks and mezzanine seating for 900 spectators. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin attended the groundbreaking and helped coach the facility's under-10 boys team at its grand opening.
The rinks are primarily for members and the club's own teams, and they host youth and adult leagues, stick and puck, learn-to-skate classes and skating camps, with public sessions open to non-members as well.
