A small-ice training rink in Sterling

Loudoun Ice Centre in Sterling is a privately owned, one-third-size rink founded in 2017 by Darren Hersh, who started The Goalie Academy in 1996 and has trained goalies and hockey players for more than 25 years.

Its small sheet is built for specialized hockey training and 3-on-3 play. The Hat Trick Hockey League develops young players' hockey sense in 3-on-3 games, and the rink hosts the Haunted Threes tournament, played under the rules of EA Sports' NHL Threes, and the elite divisions of the Wally Cup 3-on-3 youth tournament, held every December 26.

Adults and children play together in the Family Cup pond hockey tournament, and Lyon Messier, coach of the Washington Little Capitals, gives weekday morning lessons at the rink.
