Two NHL-size rinks opened in 2019 to replace the Hardee’s IcePlex, home ice for Maryville University hockey.

Maryville University Hockey Center replaced the Hardee’s IcePlex, a three-sheet rink in Chesterfield Valley that closed in 2017. Construction began in fall 2018, with the Chesterfield Hockey Association developing the complex alongside The Staenberg Group and Mia Rose Holdings, and the association opened it in 2019. Chiodini Architects designed the $21.5 million building, Arco Construction Co. was the general contractor, and Maryville signed a five-year naming-rights agreement.
The 84,000-square-foot complex holds two NHL-size rinks, seating for about 2,000 spectators and a second-floor viewing platform. Maryville University is its largest leaseholder, and the building was planned as the home facility for the university’s men’s and women’s hockey teams. The Chesterfield Hockey Association has announced a third sheet named in honor of Kelly Chase, crediting his support for the center’s existence, with a $2 million fundraising goal.
On March 4, 2026, Maryville announced it is adding NCAA Division I men’s hockey, with Division I play intended to start in the 2027-28 season. For 2026-27 the program is fielding a transition team that will play about 20 Division I games.
