Home rink of Saint Louis University hockey
Webster Groves Ice Arena is the city's rink at the Benny Gordon Recreation Complex, named for the Webster Groves resident and business owner who fought the whites-only rules at the city pool until it opened to all residents in 1953. The sheet measures 200 by 85 feet, with seating for 900, room for 1,000 standing and five locker rooms.
Saint Louis University's Division II hockey team plays its home games here. The university worked on plans for its own arena until the 2006 season, but they fell through and the team still calls Webster Groves its home rink. The Webster Groves High School Skatesmen, the Rockets Hockey Association, Mid-States Hockey Association and Winterland hockey programs skate here too, along with the Metro Edge synchronized skating team, whose figure skating competition is held in the building. The arena also hosts Missouri hockey playoffs, the Mid-States Seniors All-Star Game and spring and holiday ice shows.
The rink was rebuilt under Destination WG!, the $22.1 million Prop W program that Webster Groves voters approved in April 2024. Crews replaced the ice sheet, refrigeration equipment and cooling tower and added new bleachers, and the lobby and arena got new flooring, a low-emissivity ceiling and ceiling fans.
