Winterfest's seasonal rink in Kiener Plaza

Winterfest is the Gateway Arch Park Foundation's winter festival in Kiener Plaza, and the 2026-27 season is its eleventh. For seven weeks the plaza holds an ice rink, s'mores stations and heated igloos under 100,000 lights, in the shadow of the Gateway Arch. The festival is free to attend, and tens of thousands of people come each year.

Kiener Plaza is a 1.9-acre city park dedicated in 1962 and named for Harry Kiener, a USA Track & Field athlete who competed at the 1904 Olympics and later became a steel company executive and philanthropist. William Zorach's statue The Olympic Runner honors him, and the plaza reopened in May 2017 after a major renovation.

Opening day starts with the sixth annual Winterfest 5K and ends with the lighting of the Salvation Army tree of lights. The season also brings kids-skate-free Fridays, visits from princesses and superheroes and a New Year's Eve fireworks show, and this year adds a curling café with two bays of synthetic ice for street curling.
