Brentwood's 1975 rink, rebuilt in 2015
Brentwood Ice Rink was newly built in 1975, and the Gateway Figure Skating Club moved in the year it opened. Gateway was still headquartered here when it merged with the St. Louis club in 1979. In 1987, at the request of Brentwood's mayor, the merged club renamed itself the Brentwood Figure Skating Club to match the rink; after a change of mayor and rink staff it took back the name St. Louis Skating Club in 1997.
Today's building dates from a complete gut renovation of the 40,000-square-foot recreation complex, which reopened in September 2015. The rink got a new roof, a new refrigeration system, new dasher boards, enlarged locker rooms and heated bleachers, and Plexiglas panels were set into some of the boards so that sled-hockey players can see the action on the ice.
The St. Louis Skating Club, a U.S. Figure Skating member club, remains based here, with a coaching staff that includes Amanda Kennedy-Naji, a two-time World bronze medalist and five-time U.S. national champion with the Haydenettes, and Joy Elder-Hackney, who has coached for 30 years. The St. Louis Rockets youth hockey organization also calls the rink home, Brentwood Parks and Recreation runs adult leagues year-round, and in October 2025 the Mark Twain and McGrath school PTOs asked to use the ice for two student events.
