The R.P. Lumber Center opened in June 2022 as part of Edwardsville's A Better Place to Play park enhancement campaign, which also produced Leon Corlew Park and Splash Pad and Plummer Family Park. The city complex gives residents and surrounding communities a year-round place to skate, with a fitness room, teen center and community meeting space alongside the rink.
At its center is an NHL regulation-size ice rink, overlooked by an indoor four-lane, 175-meter track. The building stands next to Edwardsville High School and Metro-East Lutheran High School.
The River's Edge Skating Club trains here. In early 2023 the center introduced Shine on Ice, eight weekly hour-long sessions of games and instruction that let young people with disabilities experience skating and build confidence on the ice.
